The City of Charlevoix was named the winner of the Economic Vitality category, which focused on photos that display the vibrancy of the local businesses and the downtown's unique atmosphere.
For winning, the Charlevoix Main Street/Downtown Development Authority will receive $1,000.
“These photos visually represented the heart and soul of our Michigan Main Streets while capturing the spirit of the Main Street program,” said MEDC Senior Vice President of Community Development Katharine Czarnecki. “MEDC received many strong submissions and the judges had a hard time deciding on winning images. Charlevoix’s photo submission, which displays the vibrancy of Michigan Main Street Communities created by the successful local businesses adding to a downtown’s unique atmosphere, best represented the category of economic vitality.”
In order to submit photos, the community had to be either a Select or Master Level Main Street Community in the Michigan Main Street Program.

Sponsored by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), the program provides technical assistance for communities desiring to develop their own local Main Street program by utilizing the Main Street Approach., which is a common-sense approach to tackling the complex issues of revitalization by capitalizing on downtown's history and identifying the unique assets of the community itself.
The city of Charlevoix is also engaged in MEDC’s Redevelopment Ready Communities program, a voluntary, no-cost certification program designed to promote effective redevelopment strategies through a set of best practices.
