Start/end dates and hours of work vary among positions.  Applicants must be at least 18 years old unless otherwise stated.  All regular full-time employees are required to reside within 20 miles of the nearest boundary of the city.  All City positions require passing a background check.

SEASONAL

 

Golf - ProShop “Hands-on” Manager - 30-hr workweek (negotiable); $11-13/hour; Possible On-site 1 BDRM Apt.

 

The City of Charlevoix is seeking candidates with a thorough knowledge of golf and a strong customer-service orientation to manage its proshop from April-October.  The position requires a motivated team leader who is computer literate..  Applications accepted until 5:00pm February 24, 2012.

JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN

Full-time, Year-round

 

The City of Charlevoix is accepting applications for a full-time Journeyman Lineman.  This position is responsible for all phases of the operation, maintenance, and service of the City’s electric system with voltages up to 15kV.  Duties include: meter hookups, electric distribution and facilities construction and maintenance, supervision of lineman apprentice(s), maintaining a safe work environment and projecting a courteous and positive image of the City of Charlevoix with the public.  This position is scheduled in the department’s emergency stand-by rotation and may be scheduled “on-call” for consecutive 24-hour periods.  Hence, the position requires prompt and regular attendance.

Among the minimum qualifications are:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Certification from an approved Journeyman Lineman program.
  • Michigan’s Driver license and Class “A” CDL license.
  • Two years experience in constructing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground facilities.

POSTING AND HIRING PROCESS

 

At a minimum, all open positions are posted on this website and in the main lobby of City Hall.

 

The selection process involves many steps, including screening applications, administering and assessing written and/or performance tests, telephone and/or in-person interviews, and passing pre-employment physical exams and background investigation.

 

Note: Seasonal employees are released at the end of the season with no commitment by the city as to future employment.  Results of evaluations given during and at the end of the season are taken into consideration for future city employment.

HOW TO APPLY

 

Human Resources accepts applications only for posted positions.  All candidates must submit an employment application by 5:00 pm of the stated application deadline.   Cover letters and resumes are accepted, but not in place of an employment application.  A separate application must be submitted for each posting.  Applications are not retained after a vacancy is filled; that is, applicants must re-apply as new vacancies are announced.  Applications for closed positions will not be accepted.

Tips for online submissions:

  • The application must be complete.  Stating “See Resume” is not acceptable.

  • ALSO, print, fill out, and sign the Background Investigation Authorization (last page of the employment application) and either deliver, mail, fax, or scan and email the signed form to Human Resources before the designated deadline.  (Note: This form is separated from the application at time of receipt and at no time is age-related data released to decision makers.
