B) TOUR OF HANGING BASKET PROTO TYPE
Members of the DDA took a walking tour to view the two different
sizes of hanging baskets and the two types of brackets attached
to the street light poles. Version A hung at a 90 angle and Version
B was shaped like a crook. A 20" and 24" diameter basket
was on display. The baskets were painted green to match the light
poles. Board members returned to City Hall at 5:45 p.m.

F) NEW BUSINESS
Review of Sample Brackets and Hanging Baskets for Downtown Light
Poles
City Manager Mike Wiesner advised that the brackets would be made
for the City and the manufacturing of the brackets would go out
for bid. The Board generally agreed that they preferred the curved
bracket. They would like the top of the crook to have a scroll
design similar to the existing light pole. They would also like
the bottom of the crook to be flush with the bracket. The Board
generally agreed that the baskets should be the same color as
the light poles.
Motion made by Jeff Porter and seconded by John Kurtz to purchase
the larger basket (24") and the curved bracket with additional
decorative scroll work similar to the street lights. Motion adopted
unanimously.
G) OLD BUSINESS
Banners
City Manager Mike Wiesner is looking at the concept to have banners
placed at the three major entrances to the City, US 31 South,
US 31 North and M-66. He is also looking at an appropriate spot
to place a banner in the downtown area. The banners would promote
special events (i.e., venetian, blood drive, cancer walk, art
fair, etc.) Mr. Wiesner will be bringing additional information
to the Board at its next meeting.
Waterfront Planning Project
Jeff Porter asked for an update on the hiring of the planning
consultant for the waterfront project. Mr. Wiesner advised that
the Committee had met and interviews will be held on May 4th.
The Committee will make a recommendation to the DDA and the City
Council will approve the planning consultant's contract. It is
anticipated that public input on the project will be requested
June or July.
